Blog of the Week: Rookies to Watch Out For

The season has begun and it’s time to find the next Will Zalatoris

Alright so we all remember watching Zalatoris’ mesmerizing performance in the Masters. Went out there around +10000 to win the tournament and placed second. So I want that value, you want that value and we want winners.

Now there’s 27 rookies and in the interest of space I pulled the guys that are all ranked 100 or below. This is through the Bermuda Championship and just means that we’ll see these guys a bit more.

Clearly there’s a lot of rookies out there but that means there’s a lot of guys with extreeeemely high value. I think it’s fair to state that it starts with the Chilean, Mito Pereira, after his 30th place finish at the Bermuda Championship. Again, hard to put much, to any, value in the Bermuda but it does show a little bit of potential considering the brutal winds there and just being able to keep up with a couple big names, such as the one true king Patty Reed. That being said, Mito placed 3rd at the Fortinet Championship as well and has been posting some decent scores so far with his lowest finishing position as 40th. He also just had a Top 30 finish at the Houston Open so really love the potential here.

Next guy up is Curtis Thompson. Gonna step up and call him Curt the rest of the year because nobody likes a Curtis but everybody fears a Curt. He’s a 28 year old American who has shown to be a pretty strong player out the gate. He’s already secured himself a top 10 finish and at the Mayakoba proved he can definitely score but is just a bit inconsistent. I think he has the potential to put it all together and contest for a couple wins and rack up a few top 10’s this year. Guy also looks like he’ll get the win then fuck your girl after.

Lastly, we have potentially my favorite, Greyson Sigg. Sigg looks like a hybrid of Patty Reed and Harry Higgs aka he looks like a beer drinking winner. Sigg has placed 22, 30 and 33 in his three tourneys this year and I think he can get us a lot of value throughout the year. He should consistently have low odds and with a little luck you could catch him on a weekend that he puts it all together for a top five or ten bet. He’s a guy that can go out there and get a lot of birdies and as long as he can contain his bogeys, I really like him to make a couple runs this year.

Now I’m not sure if you came for a rookie by rookie analysis, but unfortunately I really just read the book by its cover when it comes to rookies. It’s basically a lottery with these guys but from the brief research I did on each, I feel like you can at least squeak out some winners from each of them. They all have performed pretty well to start the season but only time will tell whether any of them prove to be anything but that’s why we have the comment section for you all to come back and shit on me for my terrible takes.
