Last week was a pretty average tournament, hard to follow up five days of action at The Players but overall we at least had some excitement. The week started out with our ringer, Hadwin, coming out hot and taking an early lead. He went on to fall off unfortunately as guys like JT and Burns came in and began to steal the show. As far as I was concerned, the expectation was that JT would run away with the tournament on Sunday but Burns managed to outperform him and get his second straight win at the Valspar.
Overall, from a betting perspective, it was also just average. Hatton gave it a good run finishing at -9 and a 21st place finish. We absolutely nailed Mackenzie Hughes to miss the cut to cash +158, so that we at least got a win on the board. Ancer absolutely cucked us this week as everything pointed to him having a strong week and making a run at the win, but instead he just absolutely stabbed us in the back and got cut. Ancer is officially on the no fly list for the time being since he manages to find a way to fuck me over no matter what I take him for.
Not the best week and not the worst week but now we move on to one of my favorite tournaments of the year, the WGC Match Play. The course is fantastic here and provides a lot of opportunities for strategy and players are constantly stuck deciding whether they should go big or layup on many holes. It’s a chance for some of the smaller guys to make a run and I can’t wait for the weekend. Also, who doesn’t love making a bracket??
Recap of Last Year

Last year, this tournament was absolutely electric. We saw upsets everywhere and as you can see above, Rahm was the only player to make it the Sweet 16 out of the top 20 players in the world. This was a huge moment for our guy Scottie Scheffler as it was the closest he had been to winning his first tournament. He had chances to pull it off but ultimately Billy Horschel sealed his first win in three years.
Odds for the Weekend

This week, we’re going to change things up a lot since it is a very different tournament. I’m gonna give you my winner, my sleeper and mortal lock. Then I will post mine and the boards brackets for you all to follow… or roast, whichever you’re feeling. Since it’s March Madness, I should say I absolutely shit the bed in college basketball since I’ve only been watching golf the last six months so hopefully this finally pays off here. Nevertheless let the games begin….
THE PICKS
Winner: Sergio Garcia +4600
Serg has been playing well recently and just fell off a little bit at the end of the week at The Players. He has played this tournament so many times before and his group isn’t all too bad. He has made it at least the Sweet 16 the last two years and I think it’s time for Sergio to finally get his win. He’s also lived in Texas for a while so he obviously knows how the courses play.
Longshot- Harold Varner III +12000
HV3 proved he can play with the best players in the world at The Players as he had a chance to win the biggest prize in golf history. He didn’t play all that great last week but at Sawgrass he had the ball on a string. He has been relatively random each week with when he shows up but I think with the big tournament feel and high competition he can make a run this week. +12000 just feels a tad ridiculous.
Mortal Lock – Keith Mitchell +300 to Win Group
This is extremely overpriced as the biggest reason for his odds is because Cantlay is in his group, despite Cantlay never making it out of the first round. I think Keith cruises to the Sweet 16 and even gives himself an opportunity to at least make it to the Final Four. Keith has proved that he can compete with anyone and I don’t see why he doesn’t get more respect in the odds.
THE BRACKET: Just gotta believe…..
