How to Bet: Byron Nelson

Gambling Recap

Call your friends, call your girl, call your mother, call anyone you can; THE KING HAS RETURNED. I told each and every one of you — last week’s tournament was the only one that brought me any type of interest.. and what happened? That’s right mothafuckas, we cashed at +4100. 41-1 odds given out by yours truly. Our boy Homa came out firing, right off the bat you could tell he wanted to take it home. He stuck around the leaderboard all weekend and on Sunday, he proved that he’s a legitimate threat and deserves to be respected as such. A fantastic weekend ahead of another solid tournament right before the PGA Championship. This is just the beginning boys, let’s keep rallying.

Recap of Last Week

Again, Homa was hunting for the win all weekend. He came out hot on Thursday and after Jason Day took a 10 pound shit in his pants, it was clear that all Homa had to do was outlast Keegan Bradley to secure the win.

Leaked photo of Jason Day Saturday:

The weather all weekend was absolutely atrocious as it piss-poured each day and made it very difficult to score. As a fellow east coaster, that meant no golf for us all weekend which really fucking sucked. That being said, it was ideal that Homa got himself in good position on Thursday during the better weather — so he really just needed to maintain his score and get a couple birdies each day to stay up in the leader board. After a roller coaster battle on Sunday against Keegan, Max finished the job and walked away with his fourth PGA win.

A great weekend for those that followed and just a glimpse of what’s to come moving forward.

Now let’s move on to the Byron Nelson

Recap of Last Year

Last year was an absolute score-fest as K.H. Lee took home the win at 25-under. After checking out the qualifiers, it looks like we can expect just about the same as Wesley Bryan won at 8-under par on Monday.

Odds for the Weekend

No surprise here, Scottie is our favorite heading into the week. Number one in the world, Texas course — feels like a layup, but I just can’t give out +950 so let’s find our guy.

Things I’m looking at:

  • Spieth is a Texas guy who performed well at this course last year. His last tournament was a win so definitely worth keeping an eye on
  • Willy Z is still chasing his first career win in a year where a lot of guys are finally pulling it off and he finished top 20 last year
  • Hideki sitting at +3100 doesn’t really sit right with me, he has never won in Texas and he hasn’t played in a bit, but that just feels a touch high

THE PICKS

Winner – Cameron Champ +6500

We’re taking another long play this week and I’m honestly worried about how much I love this pick. Cam has been playing at the top of his game lately and has been putting himself in theright spots to get a win. He’s proved that he can score and he’ll be slapping absolute nukes off the tee to be set up for just that. 65-1 odds is absolutely insane here and I can’t help but take it. Let’s see if we can fuck around and get back to back wins!

Longshot – Ryan Palmer +12000

Palmer hasn’t been playing the best of golf as of late, but he will be back in his home state and somewhere he’s found success in the past. I think 120-1 odds feels just a bit too crazy and is worth taking a chance on here. Let’s see if some of that Scottie magic rubbed off on him at the Zurich…

Fuck This Guy – Lanto Griffin to Miss the Cut +140

Lanto has been playing better than he was lately, but I’m gonnago for the statistical play here and bank on him continuing to play poor in Texas. He continues to struggle to make the cut at each Texas tournament and I think that we’ll see that trend continue this week.

MORTAL LOCK – Will Zalatoris Top 20 +115

So, I really thought about taking Willy Z to win, but something was telling me not to jump at the odds too hard. I foresee him being around the top of the leaderboard and having a chance to win, but ultimately I feel a lot safer just going for the easy top 20 here. I wouldn’t judge anyone that takes this to the next level and jumps to top 5, 10 or winner if you’re feeling it. He’s a Texas kid and is likely using this to catch full form ahead of the PGA in a week, so I expect him to bring his A game
