How to Bet: Travelers Championship

Where shall we start. The Country Club lived up to all the hype and showed the people there’s a reason behind its everlasting legacy, yet again. The course proved to be both extremely difficult, yet extremely gettable. Every hole presented an opportunity for either a birdie or a double bogey — making each shot more important than the last. From the jump, it looked like Rory could carry his momentum from RBC and slide back into Major glory, but he was quickly shut down as Morikawa led the charge into the weekend. It looked like it could’ve been a classic Morikawa win -where everyone counts him out pre-tournament — but he was quickly shut down on Saturday and ended up getting mauled. The stage was set for Sunday.. a battle of the giants as Zalatoris, Scottie and Fitz all had their eyes on the trophy. The final day without a doubt delivered as each player fought it outto take home the trophy. We got to see back and forth action through the entire day, but Fitz proved to be the inevitable winner as he hit 17 out of 18 greens taking home his first win on US soil as a pro. The same man that won the centennial US Amateur Open at The Country Club is now the first US Open winner at The Country Club since 1988. Below are a couple of must watch videos showing Fitz pulling it off.

Now, the real news of the US Open is the fact that our page has now picked the winner in four out of the last six tournaments. This also includes both the PGA Championship and US Open. Tell your friends. Tell your family. Tell anyone else that loves gambling to follow along!

Update on LIV

Since the news cycle seems to be never ending with LIV, I’m gonna say that I’m writing this as of 10pm est on Tuesday night. There is a shit load of news coming tomorrow, I know, but unfortunately I need to sit miserably at my desk and won’t be able to update the blog. This morning we found out that Brooks Koepka has officially signed with LIV Golf and there are a lot of rumors that he’s not the last this week. My guess is that it will be another big name and I think it’ll be someone similar to Kokrak (please credit if I nail this). The other news is that the PGA reportedly tripped over $160 Million and decided that they would be adding eight new bonus events that will contain only the top 50 ranked FedEx Cup golfers, which will have no cutsand $20 Million purses beginning in Fall 2023. Jay Monahan is set to hold a press conference tomorrow and hopefully will use that time to explain the events and where that money came from.. but I wouldn’t be surprised if we have to wait for that info for a couple more weeks. The PGA vs LIV rivalry is still very much on, and we have only skimmed the surface of the drama.

Now that we have recapped the last week, let’s move on to one of the best tourneys of the year, the Travelers Championship.

Recap of Last Year

Last year was both an extremely exciting, yet uncomfortably boring ending as English and Hickock went into an eight-holeplayoff where they played the 18th hole six times. It was absolute par city, but eventually Kokrak came out with the win after getting the much needed birdie to end the tournament. Travelers is always an electric atmosphere so it was still fun watching the fans go crazy over and over at 18. All in all, great tournament. Before we get into this week, we have to sneak in the infamousvideo everyone thinks about when the Travelers gets mentioned:

Odds for the Weekend

What I’m Looking at

  • Scottie, Rory and JT all open up as the favorites for the tournament as they continue to be the top dawgs in the world. Per usual, wouldn’t be surprised if any of them won but won’t be taking them as my pick
    • Stay tuned for something special we have for Scottie tho…
  • Spieth opens at +2200 and is forever considered the king of the Travelers so hard to look away here
  • Burns hurt me after taking him at the US Open and I really thought he was gonna pull it off until Sunday where he exploded but I think this is a good tournament for him. +1900 isn’t a bad price for him
  • Jason Day is +8000 and seems to always show out here, he has a 10th, 8th and 12th over the last four times he has played and seems to be dying to get his win here

THE PICKS

Winner – Patrick Cantlay +1400 (DK)

Cantlay has finally been returning to his true form over the last couple tournaments with a 3rd place finish at the Memorial and 14th at the US Open. He has a very strong past here constantly finishing in the top 15 and I think this is the perfect time for him to get his first (real) win of the year. He only has the win with Xander at the Zurich so he could use a big tournament like the Travelers to show that he’s all the way back.

Longshot – Jason Day +8000 (DK)

Like I said above, Jason Day has been fighting each year at the Travelers despite his previous finishes. He seems to really like this course and comes ready to show out and fight for the win so I think 80-1 odds is very good here. I could definitely see him having the lead or being top 5 at some point this week and it’ll just be a matter of if he can maintain it all weekend. Let’s see if we can steal one here.

Fuck this Guy – Cameron Tringale +150 (DK)

It’s getting to the point that I feel like I just take Tringale to get every week but stunningly it works pretty well. We didn’t hit last time but I feel that he’s overdue to get cut and his history at the Travelers says that this is wayyy overvalued. He got cut here the last two tournaments and barely made it the time before that. +150 feels well overvalued so I’ll definitely be taking this one.

Scottie Sprinkles – Scottie Scheffler to Win +1100 (DK)

This is the unveiling of a new promotion run by yours truly. People forget that I actually jumpstarted Scottie’s career by picking him to win the Waste Management and betting him over and over to win that tournament. He felt the weight of my wallet on his shoulders that weekend and absolutely delivered. Since then, he has taken the world by storm and is no longer fun to bet at these odds. I can’t live with myself giving you all the favorite week after week but I will be using this as a disclaimer that I think he can win every single tournament so we will sprinkle on him to win every week through Scottie Sprinkles.

MORTAL LOCK – Sam Burns Top 20 +100 (Barstool)

I had to shop around a little bit to find this line but boy is this valued incorrectly. Burns has been on an absolute heater lately and I don’t see this stopping any time soon. I said it last week going into the US Open and really thought he was gonna pull out the win but he is easily the most underrated player in the world right now. He has won three times on Tour yet nobody talks about him or even gives him a featured group. He has been increasing his spot on the leaderboard each year at the Travelers and I don’t see a scenario that he’s not lurking around the leaderboard
