Gambling Announcement
Well my friends, it happened again. I got swept. I thought at the very least throwing in the ‘We Ready’ video would get us a win but instead we got cucked by Jon Rahm. I now feel I also have to admit that the grim reaper comment wasn’t original and it was stolen by the choke artist Andy Reid who also lost me my bets. It was a dark weekend, darker than most and I would understand if you all decided that you should just subscribe to the blog and only read to make fun of me and tell all your friends to read the blogs. I really would completely understand. I’ll even give you a minute to do so.

Now that you’ve subscribed to the blog, we can talk about what we’re doing moving forward. I have decided to change our methods of picks. I think I have proven I might not be a sharp so we will now be introducing the newest, most unique bets in the game. I will be giving out:
- Winner
- Matchup
- Miss the Cut
- Mortal Lock
Since I have decided to step up and change the entire program, I think it is fair to both, you, my million followers, and myself, that we restart the unit count. Just gonna scrap that and act like it didn’t happen. Anyone opposed? Nope, alright cool, thanks. Now that we have a clean slate, let’s chat about the craziness of last week.
Recap of Last Week
Last week was the first glimpse of some real golf this year and it was everything we could have asked for. An absolutely stacked leaderboard where at one point 12 players were tied for second, one stroke back. Zalatoris was the clubhouse leader heading into Saturday and held the solo lead for much of the day. With one of the best shots this year, Jason Day holed out on 14 to get tied for the lead and looked like he could win it, but then as everyone expected, he choked.
Luke List tied for the lead at -15 about an hour and a half ahead of Zalatoris finishing and looked like he would fall short until Zalatoris got to 18. Tied for the lead, Zalatoris had an 8 foot putt to seal the win with a birdie and missed it by about two inches. A true heartbreaker and he had to quickly brush it off and prep for the playoff. The drives for the playoff were one of the most unique things I’ve ever seen where both balls were right next to each other in a bunker.

After they both hit solid shots out of the bunker, List went first and threw an absolute dart to tap in range and Zalatoris left his about 15 feet away. Zalatoris hit a horrific putt, signifying the story of his round and came up short of his first career win. List, a 37 year old, who was on the Kornferry Tour just two years ago, earned his first career win at the historic Torrey Pines. A great start to the PGA season that gave us a lot to look forward to this year.
Recap of Last Year

Last year was a big part of Jordan Spieth’s comeback party as he fought to get his first win since 2017. He held a 54 hole lead and hit one of the shots of the year for an eagle on 16 to tie for the lead in the third round. Ultimately, Berger came out victorious in the final round for his fourth career win in an exciting final day.
Odds for the Weekend

No surprise Cantlay comes in as the heavy favorite this week as he almost stole the tournament last year. Berger, Zalatoris and Spieth round out the top four in what is a relatively weak field. I think a lot of guys are planning to head straight to Arizona after last week to try and prep for the Phoenix Open next week, which should be a blast. A couple things to note:
- Zalatoris has played Pebble Beach numerous times including 2018 as an amateur where he shot a 67
- Played last year, finished 55th
- Kuchar looks appealing here, had a top 25 finish back in 2019 and 16th in the US Open here in 2018
- Just a heads up, he didn’t play this tourney last year
- Pat Perez finished 26th last year and has been playing very well as of late
- Might be worth a shot at +8000
- Jason Day has gotten 4th place two out of the last 3 years here, 7th last year
The Picks
Winner: Kevin Streelman to Win +3400
Streelman is a weird dude, there’s no doubt about it. He also seems to know what he’s doing at Pebble Beach. 13th place last year, 2nd place in 2020 and 7th place in 2019. He’s been chasing a win here for years and I think with a weaker than normal field he might be able to finally pull it off.
Matchup of the Week: Matt Kuchar over Denny McCarthy -120
Like I said, Kuchar has been solid at Pebble Beach and has been playing pretty well lately. He finished in 7th back at the Sony Open and veterans like him normally fair well at a historic course like this. Mccarthy has been playing well but he also got cut here last year. I think Kuch edges this one out and takes home the win for us.
Fuck this guy, He’s Getting Cut: Maverick McNealy +275
Mav came in second last year and had a chance to win the tournament but as of lately he’s been playing extremely average. He’s getting top 30’s and 40’s but rarely is doing anything big. I think a lot of people might jump on him for placing last year but fuck that he’s getting cut.
Mortal Lock: Troy Merritt Top 20 +200
Troy is one with Pebble Beach. 16th last year, 25th in 2020, the guy knows how to play the course. Outside of the Amex Open, he has been playing top 20 golf as of lately and I think he can definitely score another here. +200 feels like very good odds and I think he can pull this out for us.
