So all of you clearly saw that we hit Shane Lowry to Hit a Hole in One on 17 in Round 3 yesterday. It was without a doubt the craziest bet I have ever won and the story behind it is definitely unique:
The Story
The Board (my roommates) and I have been watching The Players Championship all weekend and today we were getting absolutely bulldozed on live birdie bets. It was a bloodbath; I had lost eight straight and it was getting to the point that I was going to stop for my own good. Despite the destruction, what we kept saying was that we wanted to bet birdies on 17 today because we noticed that between the better conditions and the pin placement, there was a chance for a hole in one. I found that Fanduel was offering specific players to hit a hole in one and thought it would be funny to ask Mr. Right Now (board member who has Paul Casey to Win) to pick a player out of the nine available names and if it hit, I’d throw him some money. Well, I read the whole list and he goes ‘Fuck it, luck of the Irish. Let’s go Lowry.” I asked no questions and placed the bet right there.
After a couple minutes, Molinari steps up and puts it to one foot and we knew that if Lowry put it behind the pin we had a chance. Five minutes later, Lowry is coming up and they cut over to him on 17 and we’re both laughing how crazy this moment could be. He hits the shot and Mr. Right Now says ‘oh shit that’s right at it’ then we see the ball land directly behind the pin, I yelled for it to spin back and the ball starts zipping back directly at the hole. We are both starting to celebrate as it rips at the cup, nearly lips out, but then falls into the hole, causing our apartment to be as loud as Sawgrass. We started screaming and celebrating as if we were next to Lowry and couldn’t believe how ridiculous the moment was. It will forever be the craziest bet I have ever won, and I think the story of it made it that much better. The fact that I jokingly asked my roommate to pick a golfer out of a list of NINE players then he goes and hits the first hole in one on 17 in THREE YEARS is just utter insanity. I threw him $100 for his service, walked away with $1,000 off $10 that was originally a joke and took everything straight to social media for you all to see.
What’s Next
What sucks is this wasn’t really something that we could have put out on Instagram ahead of time to get everyone involved but it makes us think whether we should try to stream our live bets. We could set up a camera and go on IG, Youtube or Twitter Live and you could follow us live as we take birdie bets or any live bets out there and join in with us. I think the footage would have been incredible and we easily could have gone viral which sucks we’ll never have it, but let us know if that’s something you all would ever be interested in. We want to make golf the number one gambling sport in the world and this is a prime example of how it can be represented.
